Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about our practice

Do you accept insurance?

Elaine is an out of network provider. We do not bill insurance directly for our services, but we will provide detailed receipts (superbills) that clients may submit for reimbursement from their insurance. We also accept FSA as a payment method.

Where is the practice located?

EKD Midwifery is located in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn, New York. Please contact us for the specific office address and directions.

Do you offer virtual appointments?

Yes! We offer both in-person and virtual visits. Our fees are the same for both. For virtual visits, Elaine is currently licensed to see clients in the state of New York. Licensure is pending for New Jersey and Wisconsin.

What should I expect at my first visit?

Your first visit will be 60 minutes long, regardless of the reason for your appointment. This allows us plenty of time to get to know you, understand your health history, discuss your concerns and goals, and develop a personalized plan of care.

Do you provide pregnancy and birth care?

We are primarily a gynecology practice, but there may be limited availability for full scope midwifery care, which includes pregnancy care, labor and delivery, and postpartum care. Births take place at Mount Sinai West Hospital.

Do you provide care for trans and nonbinary individuals?

Absolutely. We are committed to providing inclusive, affirming care for all individuals, including trans and nonbinary clients. Our services include reproductive healthcare for people of all gender identities.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Please fill out the contact form on our website. If you are a new client or a newly pregnant current client, please fill out the form before calling to schedule. We'll get back to you within 2 business days.

What is a certified nurse midwife (CNM)?

A CNM is a licensed and board certified practitioner with education in both nursing and midwifery, holding a master's degree. CNMs are independent practitioners who provide comprehensive women's healthcare. Learn more on our What is a Midwife? page.
